SUMMARY:Rock Creek's North Branch Stream Valley
DESCRIPTION:THIS TRIP IS FULL. WAITLIST AVAILABLE.  Discover upper Rock Creek’s watershed with a variety of habitats. We’ll start along open fields and marshy areas next to Bowie Mill Park with the opportunity to see sparrows\, hawks\, and early migrants. Turkeys and a woodcock have been spotted in this area. For those wanting a longer foray\, a 4-mile loop\, which includes the stream valley\, will be possible\, and likely we’ll see woodpeckers and other resident woodland species. The path at this point along Rock Creek is meandering and narrow with some steep sections. Meet at 8 a.m. at Bowie Mill Park (https://www.montgomeryparks.org/parks-and-trails/bowie-mill-local-park/) next to Sequoyah Elementary School with the option to do the shorter paved walk or the longer loop. Limit: 12. SUMMARY:Timberdoodling at Blue Mash
DESCRIPTION:THIS TRIP IS FULL.  WAITLIST AVAILABLE.  Join us for some crepuscular adventuring\, and witness the whistling Woodcocks! We’ll meet in the gravel lot just off of Zion Road in Laytonsville at 4 p.m.\, giving us time to casually explore before sundown (around 6) and eventual loss of light (about 6:30). Pre-dusk we will be watching for late winter stragglers as well as early spring migrants. There could be ducks on the pond\, raptors hunting the fields\, and a wide variety of seasonal songbirds. The grand finale will be listening for the first “Peents” of the evening followed directly by the whistle and whirl of the sky-dancing American Woodcocks. The first week of March has historically been reliable for Timberdoodling at Blue Mash. Limit: 12. LEADER: Angela Atwood-Moore at getmoorphit@yahoo.com. Stacy Rabinovitz will co-lead.

SUMMARY:March 2026 Meeting: Wayne Klockner\, Executive Director\, American Birding Association presents "Spring Jewels - Warblers in Migration"
DESCRIPTION:March 2026 Monthly Meeting:  Wayne Klockner\, Executive Director\, American Birding Association presents “Spring Jewels – Warblers in Migration” \nSpring migration is eagerly anticipated by birders especially due to the impressive array of warblers passing through the mid-Atlantic in April and May. While many adult male warblers are flashy and easily identified\, others present a fun challenge for birders. This presentation includes a review of all of the warbler species likely to be encountered in Spring and will address both male and female plumages and behaviors. \nWayne Klockner is Executive Director of the American Birding Association. Previously\, he had a long career in conservation with The Nature Conservancy in Maryland\, Delaware\, New York\, Massachusetts\, and Indonesia\, fulfilling his dream to protect natural lands and waters for all life. Wayne is a lifelong birder; as a pre-teen in New Jersey\, his spark bird was the Dark-eyed Junco. He has subsequently pursued birds in 21 countries—and counting. But he most enjoys documenting the seasonal changes in regional birdlife in patches close to home. Wayne lives in Ocean City\, Maryland\, with his wife Lisa and a springer spaniel named Lizzy.
